Dr. Bülent Gökdemir serves as Partner / Chief Economist at CoPartners, bringing more than 25 years of experience at the Turkish Competition Authority (“TCA”), where he served as a Chief Competition Expert across both case-handling and economic analysis departments. His extensive public-sector experience gives him a distinctive understanding of competition enforcement, regulatory decision-making and the economic considerations underpinning complex competition law matters.
Throughout his career at the TCA, Dr. Gökdemir was involved in the assessment of a wide range of competition and regulatory issues, developing particular expertise at the intersection of law and economics. At CoPartners, he works closely with the legal team on complex merger control matters, cartel and abuse of dominance investigations, market inquiries and regulatory projects, providing economic analysis and strategic insight alongside the legal assessment. His ability to bridge legal and economic perspectives is particularly valuable in matters involving sophisticated theories of harm, market dynamics and regulatory intervention.
Dr. Gökdemir also has extensive expertise in digital markets, e-commerce and emerging regulatory frameworks relating to technology and artificial intelligence. He advises on matters where competition policy, regulatory design and rapidly evolving business models intersect, helping clients assess both existing legal risks and the potential impact of future regulatory developments.
Beyond competition enforcement, Dr. Gökdemir has substantial experience in economic and public policy. He has held leadership and advisory roles at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, and has collaborated with leading institutions including TÜSİAD, TOBB and TEPAV on economic and regulatory policy projects.
He has also been active in academia, teaching courses on competition, regulation and the digital economy at Middle East Technical University, and has authored numerous publications on competition law and economics, regulation and the digital economy. He is widely recognised for his ability to translate complex economic and regulatory issues into practical and commercially relevant strategic advice.
