The Italian Competition Authority has fined 16 iron foundries and the trade association Assofond a total of €70 million—reduced from a maximum potential fine of around €600 million by taking into account the serious sectoral crisis—after finding that they coordinated commercial strategies through exchanges of sensitive information and joint price indexation mechanisms to support price increases and preserve profit margins.
The Belgian Competition Authority has issued an informal opinion concluding that the sustainability commitment by COMEOS and KOFFIECAFE to apply part of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation early by offering only industrially compostable coffee pods does not appreciably restrict competition.
